Trauma does not always look like what we expect. Many people think trauma only relates to extreme events, but it can show up quietly in everyday life. It may appear as overthinking, people pleasing, struggling to say no, or feeling the need to stay busy all the time.

These patterns often develop as ways of staying safe earlier in life. At the time, they may have helped you cope. Over time, however, they can leave you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself. Many people do not realise these behaviours are linked to past experiences.

Therapy helps bring gentle awareness to these patterns. Instead of reacting automatically from old wounds, you begin to respond from the present. This awareness allows space for choice, self compassion, and change.

You might notice blurred boundaries, difficulty resting, or feeling responsible for others’ emotions. These are not personal flaws. They are learned responses that once served a purpose. With support, they can be understood and softened.

Working with a trauma informed counsellor provides a safe space to explore these experiences at your own pace. Therapy is not about reliving the past, but about understanding how it still affects you and finding ways to feel more grounded in the present.
